Wet or Dry Cat Food? A Guide to Choosing

Wet or dry cat food? That is the question. Discover with Aldog® the best tips on how to choose the most suitable food for your feline friend without making mistakes.
When is wet cat food better than dry? Here's a simple guide to help you figure out which is the healthiest choice for your kitty.
Wet food is particularly tasty and appreciated by cats. Given its soft consistency and the large amount of water present in it (about 80%), this type of food is particularly recommended in two cases:
Your cat is old, and his teeth are starting to weaken. In this case, a good wet cat food can be of great help;
The cat tends to drink little. The watery consistency of wet food will help him to take in more liquids directly through the food.
Despite these benefits, however, wet cat food also has its limitations . Often, in fact, it is not a complete meal and requires the integration of certain nutrients. Furthermore, given the large amount of water present, it is more difficult to preserve and easily perishable, especially in the warmer seasons.
To compensate for these shortcomings, dry food comes into play, namely kibble, which is equally tasty and very nutritious.
Dry cat food is made up of a much lower percentage of water than wet food (only 10-15%) and, unlike the latter, it is considered a complete meal, therefore without the need for supplements.
In addition, cat biscuits :
They promote the development and protection of teeth and gums , preventing possible dental problems such as the formation of tartar and plaque, unlike wet food which, being soft, can settle more easily between the teeth and therefore promote bacterial infections or in any case poorer dental hygiene.
They are much more practical to store, in fact it is not necessary to keep them in cool places once opened, and they do not risk going bad in a short time;
Last but not least: they make much less mess than wet food.
In addition to being more nutritionally complete, kibble is certainly also a more “convenient” solution in practical terms.
Although dry food contains all the nutrients your cat needs, it is still essential to ensure that its formulation and the quality of the ingredients it contains are excellent. Also, especially if your cat only eats dry food, it is essential to always leave a bowl of fresh water available! (but this advice is always valid).
