Diet and number of meals

In general, your cat's diet should not be without:

  • Proteins ;
  • Vitamins ;
  • Mineral salts .

It is essential to balance wet and dry food, preferring the latter due to the sensitivity of the animal's stomach. A good example of dry food is certainly kibble , foods with selected ingredients and rich in nutrients useful for your feline friend.

Instead, avoid these foods, which are absolutely harmful to every cat:

  • Chocolate: Chocolate contains theobromine, a substance toxic to cats that can cause serious problems, including poisoning;
  • Onions and Garlic : These vegetables contain compounds that can damage cats' red blood cells, leading to anemia problems;
  • Unsupervised Homemade Foods: Some owners try to feed their cats raw or homemade foods. However, it is essential to ensure that these “do-it-yourself” diets are balanced and provide all the necessary nutrients.

While kittens need 4-6 meals a day , adult cats consume many "micro-meals" (up to 10!). Older or neutered cats , accustomed to very sedentary lifestyles, typically consume 2-3 portions of food .

At every stage of life, these wonderful animals are often capable of self-regulating their food intake. However, monitoring how much your cat should eat remains essential to prevent overweight or malnutrition: continue reading and become your four-legged friend's favorite chef!

Puppies
