Why should cat food always be gluten-free?

The cat is a carnivorous animal, anddoes not need gluten in his diet. So why do many products on the market contain gluten and cereals? The reason is simpler than you might think, and it has nothing to do with intolerances or allergies. Gluten is in fact an excellent binder and is often used to hold together the dough of the kibble in the form of rice or other types of cereals.

However, as we anticipated, the cat doesn't really need these elements, indeed in the long run they could cause damage to his stomach, programmed to digest only meat and its derivatives. Our friends in nature would never eat rice or pasta: so why should we make them eat them?

For this very reasonthe Alcat® line of cat biscuits is strictly gluten and cereal free. We have studied a composition that allows us to keep the kibble without the use of cereals or other additives. In our products you will only find:

  • proteins
  • vitamins
  • mineral salts

And they are suitable for both kittens and adult and neutered cats!

For neutered cats it is even more important that the food is gluten-free, foravoid the intake of unnecessary calorieswhich could promote fat gain. The Alcat® Sterilised kibble range is composed only of animal proteins that form lean mass, essential amino acids to promote fat disposal and vitamins.

What nutrients should a cat food contain?

Excluding gluten, which we have seen can be harmful to our friends, what should cat food contain?

First of all, it is important that his diet consists exclusively of quality, natural products, without artificial derivatives and preservatives. In addition toproteins, the first element of sustenance for our cats, a good food can containvitamins, crude fibers and mineral salts, useful for rebalancing the intestine.

Also, when choosing cat food, you need to buya complete product, which does not require supplementation. For example, Alcat® kibble does not need to be supplemented with wet food, and is ideal for the first year of a cat's life and in subsequent phases. Finally, a good cat food, in addition to being gluten-free, must keep our friend healthy and active, providing the right energy even to the elderly.
